From Gallatin, Tenn.: A major part of the Cumberland River raw water intake project is underway. Tunneling has begun about 36 feet beneath the river bluff to connect a new intake structure with a water treatment plant. This project includes a new concrete-lined wet well, intake screens, pumps, and other systems.

The new intake is expected to provide greater raw-water withdrawal capability, strengthening the water system and improving reliability.

Further details about the project are available from the city, which has begun working on this major undertaking through its Public Utilities department.
