A program is helping thousands of seniors get free dental care, regardless of coverage. Many older adults have stopped participating in social activities or eating with their families due to embarrassment over their smile. This often starts when they lose dental coverage at retirement, as Medicare typically does not cover dental care.

The Smile On 65+ program allows dentists to treat patients who have put off oral care. A dentist notes that oral health affects overall health, particularly nutrition.

The program was launched in 2018 and is now available at 53 clinics.
